Matthäus Nimmervoll OCist , also: Matthäus IV. Nimmervoll , (born June 16, 1950 in St. Veit an der Gölsen ) is the emeritus abbot of the Cistercian monastery Lilienfeld . He resigned from office on May 15, 2019.

Life

Matthäus Nimmervoll was one of five children of a stonemason, attended elementary and secondary school, passed the final examination at the Gymnasium in Horn and entered the Cistercian Abbey of Lilienfeld on August 19, 1968 September 1973 made the perpetual religious vows . The ordination by the diocesan bishop Franz Žak Nimmervoll received June 28, 1974 in Lilienfeld.

In Salzburg he studied philosophy and theology at the university and church music at the Mozarteum . His graduation as a master of theology took place in 1975.

From 1976 to 1981 he was a cleric magister and novice master and from 1977 to 1981 he was also a monastery chaplain and ceremonial . In 1981 he moved to Loiwein (parish Lichtenau in the Waldviertel ) as a parish administrator / vicar , where he worked until 1994. During this time, from 1988 to 1993, he was also dean of the Gföhl dean's office .

After the resignation of Abbot Norbert Mussbacher on 25 October 1993 Nimmervoll was elected on the same day, the 65th abbot of the monastery Lilienfeld, which at December 12, 1993 abbatial blessing by Abbot General Ferenc Polikárp Zakar followed. His motto as Matthew IV. Never full is “Pax vobis (Peace be upon you)”. On May 15, 2019, he resigned due to the aftermath of a stroke he suffered in August 2018. On May 16, the convent of Stift Lilienfeld elected the previous prior Pius Maurer as his successor, who was designated by Abbot General Mauro-Giuseppe Lepori on July 28 .
