Piz Tavru

The Piz Tavrü is 3168  m above sea level. M. after Piz Sesvenna and Piz Pisoc, the third highest mountain in the Sesvenna group in the Swiss Alps.

Location and surroundings

The summit rises north of the Ofen Pass above the Val Nüglia, the northern flank of the mountain slopes down to the Val Tavrü, a side valley of the Val S-charl . The south side of Piz Tavrü as well as the entire Val Nüglia are part of the Swiss National Park . The park's boundary runs along the entire ridge of the mountain from southeast to northwest. With a notch height of 851 meters, Piz Tavrü is a relatively independent mountain.

Routes to the summit

The Piz Tavrü is rarely climbed. Possible routes lead from S-charl through the Val Tavrü to the north side of the mountain. Here you can either climb to Fuorcla Val Nüglia to reach the summit via the east ridge (at least WS +, II), or you can climb to the summit directly through a system of gutters in the north flank (approx. ZS-, III, especially in warm weather due to falling rocks Temperatures dangerous). Since the south side is in the national park, there are no known routes there, but the degree of difficulty should generally be lower than on the north side, as the slope of the south flank is significantly less than that of the north flank.
