Pjetërq i Epërm ( Albanian  also  Pjetërqi i Epërm , Serbian Горњи Петрич Gornji Petrič ) is a village in Kosovo that belongs to the municipality of Klina .

geography

Pjetërq i Epërm is on road number 9 that goes from Pristina to Peja . It is located thirteen kilometers southeast of Peja and 35 km west of Pristina. Klina , the main town of the municipality, is ten kilometers east of Pjetërq i Epërm and can be reached by bus. There is no rail connection. The villages Pjetërq i Poshtëm and Jagoda border the village . The Bistrica flows through the southern part of the village.

population

According to the 2011 census, the village has a population of 563. Of these, 522 (92.72%) are Albanians and 40 (7.10%) Balkan Egyptians and Ashkali .

Before and after the Kosovo War, many residents of Pjetërq i Eperm emigrated to Western Europe, so that many of the locals actually live abroad. Serbs previously resident in the village also emigrated to the Serbian motherland after the Kosovo war. With the exception of a few Catholic families (approx. 5–10%), the place is dominated by Muslims in contrast to the neighboring village.

economy

The economy of the village is characterized by agriculture, which is still used as a means of survival for a large part of the residents. Due to the emigration of residents to Western Europe and North America, some residents are dependent on funds from the diaspora. In the village there is a small supermarket with groceries and toiletries, a gas station with a restaurant and a car wash.
