Pyotr Kakhovsky ( Russian Пётр Григорьевич Каховский * 1797 in Smolensk , † July 13 . Jul / 25. July  1826 greg. In Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian officer and Dekabrist .

Life

He grew up in the university pension of Moscow and in March 1816 joined the life guard hunter regiment as a junker , but was released from the Russian guard in December on the instructions of Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich Romanov . He was accused of laziness in the service and other negligence that was incompatible with the officer's dignity. The result was his transfer to the Caucasus . Apparently he had learned from the events and now distinguished himself in the service, even advancing to first lieutenant by November 1819 . He then took leave, fell ill and said goodbye to the army . His attempts at recovery took him to the Caucasus, Dresden and Paris . Via Switzerland , Italy and Austria he arrived in Petersburg in December 1825 just in time to witness the preparations for the uprising in Ryleev's apartment on December 13th ; he was a member of the Northern League of the Decembrists and the initiator of a cell of the secret society in the life guards . His task should be to shoot Nikolai I , which he could not make up his mind to, however, he fatally injured Count Mikhail Andreevich Miloradowitsch and injured other high officers. After the failure of the uprising, he was executed along with four other Decembrists .
