Pyotr Petrovich Sokalsky

Pyotr Petrovich Sokalski ( Russian Пётр Петрович Сокальский ., Scientific transliteration Pëtr Petrovič Sokal'skij ; born September 26 . Jul / 8. October  1832 greg. In Kharkov , † March 1887 in Odessa ) was a Russian composer and musicologist.

Sokalski studied at the Kharkiv University . From 1857 to 1860 he was Secretary of the Russian Consulate in New York City . After his return he lived as a newspaper editor in Odessa .

He composed three operas and published extensive works on Russian folk music . His research into the influence of Chinese music on Russian music was groundbreaking.
