Plaça d'Europa

The Plaça d'Europa ( Catalan "Europaplatz") was opened on Europe Day 1998. It is located on the television tower of Montjuïc on the Olympic site in Barcelona .

The architects Frederic Correa i Ruiz and Alfons Milà i Sagnier designed a semicircular frieze that frames a circular fountain based on an idea by the former mayor of Barcelona, Pasqual Maragall . The design of the letters of the frieze was done by Enric Satué . On the far left of the frieze, the following words from the European Unification Treaty Title 1, Article A can be read in Catalan : “An ever closer union of the peoples of Europe, in which decisions are made as closely as possible to the citizen.” This is followed by the frieze On the right, in alphabetical order, the names of European politicians who, in the opinion of the initiators, played an outstanding role in the unification of Europe:
