Plagemann is a Low German family name. The name was created by stretching as a variant of Plaumann . The name Plaumann, in turn, is an origin name with reference to places called Plau, Plaue or Plauen.
There was already the end of the 16th century , early 17th century in two areas of Germany families Plage man, whose name probably originated independently and are not related to each other, once in the area Brandenburg / Mecklenburg / Lübeck and once in Münsterland ( Riesenbeck , Saerbeck , Schwagstorf , Emsdetten ).
Family members have emigrated to America from both areas. In the United States , the name Plageman is in the 50,000 most common family names. The name also exists in the Netherlands , although immigration from the Münsterland is more likely due to the distribution near the border.
