The Plantahof is a renowned agricultural training center in the canton of Graubünden and Eastern Switzerland . It is located in Chur Rhine Valley on the German road between the center of Landquart and towards Igis located fraction Landquart factories .

history

In 1811 Thomas Lareda from Präz am Heinzenberg built today's main building. Since he had acquired his fortune as a confectioner in Saint Petersburg , Russia, he designed the building based on the Russian model and accordingly named it «Russhof».

In the 1870s, the canton did not accept Lareda's request to turn the Russhof into a training center for less well-off Protestant youth from Graubünden.

In 1886 the farm passed to Rudolf Alexander von Planta . He ran Brown Swiss cattle and specialized in mountain agriculture. Rudolf Alexander von Planta died in 1895. In his will he transferred the estate to the canton of Graubünden. He decreed that brown cattle breeding should continue and that an agricultural school should be set up at the «Russhof». The latter was officially inaugurated in 1896. The founder was named, so that the training company has been called “Plantahof” ever since.

After the redesign of the main building in 1909, the new school wing was put into operation in 1953, followed by the boarding school building and the gym in 1978.

In 2011 the new Weber lecture hall was opened by Valerio Olgiati, which could only be realized with the financial support of the Carl Weber Recoullé Foundation.

Todays use

In 2000 the agricultural advisory service and the agricultural school merged . The agricultural education and advice center Plantahof emerged from the merger .

As a result of the sharp decline in beekeepers and bee colonies, courses have been held in the Inforama Rütti, Zollikofen and the Plantahof since the end of 2014 to obtain the federal beekeeping certificate.

Others

The Plantahof operates a vineyard on around 2.5 hectares in Malans . The winery is located in Landquart. From 2020, the wine will be made from organic grapes in accordance with Bio Suisse guidelines .
