The Plantlünner sand plain is a 694 km² natural spatial unit of the fourth order (subordinate to the Dümmer-Geest lowland ). It is a mainly agricultural area. According to a scientific system, it bears the number 581.

It essentially comprises the areas of Freren , Fürstenau , Recke , Hopsten , Hörstel , Schapen , Spelle . Compared to the neighboring landscapes, it is sunk 20–30 m. It is largely flat and slopes slightly to the northwest (from 60 to 30 m). In the northwest, some ground moraines protrude into the area. The area that was once marshland has almost been completely peeled off. A remnant is the Recker Moor . The common oak and birch forests that often occur have also largely disappeared. In addition to the Recker Moor, some lowland areas are protected.
