Plato Tymofijowytsch Boryspolez ( Ukrainian Платон Тимофійович Борисполець , Russian Платон Тимофеевич Борисполец Plato Timofejewitsch Borispolez * 1805 in Gogoliv , Chernigov Governorate , Russian Empire , † July 14 jul. / 26. July  1880 greg. In St. Petersburg , Russian Empire) was a Ukrainian - Russian painter, lithographer and artillery officer.

Life

Platon Boryspolez was born in the village of Hoholiw in what is now Brovary Raion in the Ukrainian Oblast of Kiev . From 1820 he did military service in the Russian Army in Saint Petersburg. In 1823 he became an artillery officer and his unusual activity attracted the attention of Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich , so that he was personally introduced to Emperor Nicholas I. However, he loved painting and already during his military service from 1836 took courses at the Petersburg Academy of Arts , where he met Taras Shevchenko , who was also studying there and with whom he remained on friendly terms. At the Art Academy, Boryspolez was awarded both silver and gold medals for drawings and paintings. In 1843 he moved to Paris and in 1848 to Italy, where he stayed in Rome , Venice and Florence and devoted himself to painting. He went blind in 1852 and then returned to Russia. In 1859 he was elected a volunteer supporter of the academy by the Academy of Arts .
