Platyrhinoidis triseriata is a ray from the family of thorn-back guitar rays (Platyrhinidae). He lives on the coast of the eastern Pacific from San Francisco to the Gulf of Mexico .

features

Platyrhinoidis triseriata becomes a maximum of 91 centimeters long. Its body disc is round. The strong tail has two dorsal and one caudal fin. The back and tail have three rows of large, bumpy thorns. The animals are brown, brown-gray or olive-brown on top, the underside is white or cream-colored. Platyrhinoidis triseriata has ampullary electroreceptors .

Way of life

Platyrhinoidis triseriata lives individually or in small groups near the coast in shallow water, usually from the water surface to a depth of 50 meters. Preferred habitats are fine sandy and muddy seabeds and seaweed fields . It is sometimes common in muddy bays. It often buries itself in the ground. Platyrhinoidis triseriata feeds on bottom -dwelling crustaceans , molluscs, and worms. It is ovoviviparous and gives birth to 1 to 15 young rays per litter.
