The Playa Bahamonde ( Spanish ) is a beach in the north of Livingston Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located immediately north of Punta La Caverna on the east side of Cape Shirreff on the northern foothills of the John Paul II peninsula .
Chilean scientists named it after the Chilean zoologist Jorge Nibaldo Bahamonde Navarro (* 1924) from the Universidad de Chile , who was involved in the census of seal populations in this area during the 20th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1965–1966) .
