Pleurogrammus is a genus of fish from the order of the perch-like (Perciformes). The two species of the genus live in the northern Pacific from the Pacific coast of Siberia and the Sea of ​​Okhotsk via Japan, the Kuriles , the Bering Sea and the Aleutian Islands to Alaska and are rarely found as far as southern California .

Pleurogrammus species are elongated fish. They can reach a length of 56 to 62 cm. The top of the head is characterized by strong bony ridges. The head is partially scaled. The front part of the continuous dorsal fin is not separated by an indentation from the rear part with soft rays. The anal fin is without spines, the caudal fin is forked. The number of vertebrae is 59 to 62. The fish have five side lines . Pleurogrammus species are greenish-gray in color and banded.

Way of life

Pleurogrammus species live pelagic or bentic from the intertidal zone to depths of 500 meters. In contrast to other Hexagrammidae species, they are not territorial, but swarm-forming.
