Plodprasop Suraswadi

Plodprasop Suraswadi ( Thai : ดร. ปลอด ประสพ สุรัสวดี RTGS : Plotprasop Suratsawadi; born March 3, 1945 in Bangkok ) is a Thai politician of the Pheu-Thai party . He was Minister of Science from 2011 to 2012, and has been Deputy Prime Minister in the government of Yingluck Shinawatra since 2012 .

Education and career

He studied fishing economics at the Kasetsart University in Bangkok, graduating in 1968 with a B.Sc. He received his Masters degree in Fisheries Management from Oregon State University (USA) in 1970 . In 1976 he received his PhD in ecology from the University of Manitoba (Canada). Suraswadi also received two honorary doctorates , 1991 from Maejo University in Chiang Mai and 1992 from Kasetsart University.

Career

Plodprasop Suraswadi began his government career in 1989. He mainly worked in the natural resources field. Among other things, he was director of the fisheries and forestry authorities. When he took office as Minister of Science and Technology in September 2011, he stated his assets, as prescribed by the constitution, at the equivalent of 23 million euros. This makes him the richest member of the cabinet.
