The Plotnikowa ( Russian Плотникова ) is a 134 km long left tributary of the Bolshaya , which is called Bystraja above the confluence , in the south of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East of Russia .
River course
The Plotnikowa runs in the Jelisowski and Ust-Bolscherezki districts . Its origin is the 348 m high Natschikinskoje Lake . From there it initially flows 25 km to the northwest and then 10 km to the west. The towns of Natschiki , Sokotsch and Dalnii are located on the upper reaches . The Plotnikowa turns for the next 50 kilometers to the south-southwest. The Apatscha settlement lies north of the river . At river kilometer 56 the Bannaja , at river kilometer 44 the Karymschina (both on the left side) flows into the river. This now flows to the west, where it forms numerous meanders and branches into several river arms. Finally, the Plotnikowa meets the Bolshaya, 58 km above its mouth on the west coast of Kamchatka in the Sea of Okhotsk . The disused Lenino military airfield is located 30 km above the mouth of the Plotnikowa, north of the river. The Plotnikowa drains an area of 4450 km².
Fish fauna
Various species of Pacific salmon ( Oncorhynchus ) occur in the river and migrate up the river to their spawning grounds. These include the king salmon , the sockeye salmon , the ketal salmon , the pink salmon , the silver salmon and the steelhead trout . In addition, Salvelinus leucomaenis , a char species , and the grayling species Thymallus pallasii occur in the Plotnikowa .
