The Poggensee is a lake in the Stormarn district in the German state Schleswig-Holstein . It is located north of the town of Bad Oldesloe (district Poggensee) in a small depression that is delimited by steep slopes in the east and west. The lake is around 8.7 hectares and up to 6.4 m deep. The Poggenbek drain is in the south and joins the Trave west of Bad Oldesloe . The lake, which emerged from a dead ice hole , has an almost round basin.
The lake was acquired in 1951 by the city of Bad Oldesloe. It is managed by the Oldesloer Anglerverein and may only be fished from a boat. A guarded open-air beach pool has been located on the south bank of Lake Poggensee since 1955. Apart from that, the lakeshore is not allowed to be entered. The bathing water quality meets the requirements of the EU directive for “excellent quality” (as of August 20, 2013).
