Leopold von Leonrod
Leopold Freiherr von Leonrod (born December 13, 1829 in Ansbach , † October 6, 1905 in Munich ) was a Bavarian lawyer and Minister of Justice .

Leopold von Leonrod came from the baronial von Leonrod family and was the son of the Ansbach Appellate Court President Ludwig von Leonrod (1774-1859) and his wife Rosina nee. Freiin von Stengel (1786–1862), granddaughter of the Bavarian financial expert Stephan von Stengel , who is said to have been a natural son of Elector Karl Theodor .
biography
The nobleman visited the pagerie in Munich, became a chamberlain and then studied law at the universities of Würzburg , Heidelberg and Munich . In 1853 he passed his state examination with distinction and in 1857 received his first position as a substitute public prosecutor (representative) at the Munich District Court. In 1859 Leonrod was appointed District Court Assessor in Nuremberg, in 1862 as Second Public Prosecutor in Traunstein, in 1865 as Counselor at the District Court of Munich I, in 1867 as City Judge and Chairman of the Munich City Court, in 1872 as First Public Prosecutor at the District Court of Munich I and in 1877 for the Second Director of this court.
In 1879 Leopold von Leonrod was promoted to director and in 1885 to president of the district court Munich I. In 1887, Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria appointed him justice minister of the kingdom, which he held until 1902. He said goodbye for health reasons, mainly because of an eye condition.
During his term of office in 1900 the civil code was introduced as a Reich law and the resulting adjustments to the Bavarian laws and the administration of justice. Likewise, the land registers and land registry offices were set up throughout Bavaria during his ministerial tenure .
Leopold von Leonrod married Rosa von Welser , daughter of the appellate court director Johann Michael Freiherr von Welser and his wife Friederike geb. von Leonrod (1817–1839).
The Eichstätter Bishop Franz Leopold von Leonrod (1827-1905) was the older brother of the minister. Other brothers were Karl von Leonrod (1817–1905), Bavarian lieutenant general and personal friend of the Prince Regent, and August von Leonrod (1819–1904) General of the Cavalry , whose wife Sybilla von Leonrod, nee. Meilhaus acted as the educator of King Ludwig II .
