Point Pleasant is a village in Plumstead Township , Bucks County , Pennsylvania . Located at the intersection of River Road (Pennsylvania Route 32), Point Pleasant Pike, and Tohickon Road, Point Pleasant is an unincorporated village. The village is located on Tohickon Creek which flows directly into the Delaware River and is close to Ralph Stover State Park . The historic part of the village center was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 .

history

Native Americans from the Lenni Lenape tribe originally settled in this area. With the immigration of white settlers, mills were built in this area on the Delaware River . The village was originally known as "Lower Black's Eddy". In 1828 the first postmaster changed the name to Point Pleasant. In 1832, the first 60 miles of the Delaware Canal (now Delaware Canal State Park ) were opened. The canal runs partly through the village. Point Pleasant became a boating point between Easton and Bristol. Several hotels were built during this time. The Baptist church was founded by Rev. Joseph Matthias around 1850. The construction of the church began in 1853. which can be found today in the center of the village.

Historical part of the village

The historical part of the village includes around 70 buildings. Some of these buildings are: Thomas Schwartz House (c. 1840), Stover Mansion (Tattersall Inn), Point Pleasant School (1850), Baptist Church (1852), Point Pleasant Hotel (c. 1840), Jacob Sutters Hotel (c. 1870 ), Waterman's Inn (1832), and the Stover Mill (c. 1742). Point Pleasant also has four bridges that go over the canals (now Delaware Canal State Park )
