Pokémon Origins ( Japanese : ポ ケ ッ ト モ ン ス タ ー THE ORIGIN , Poketto Monsutā THE ORIGIN ; Pocket Monsters: THE ORIGIN ) is an anime miniseries from 2013 and an offshoot of the Pokémon series. Unlike the main series , which is about the adventures of the main character Ash , Pokémon Origins is the direct adaptation of the games Pokémon Red and Blue Edition . The various trailers keep mentioning that the series is aimed at viewers who have played the games themselves.
content
The series deals with the first main games in the Pokémon series, Pokémon Red and Blue . The rival's Japanese name, Green , refers to the original Japanese versions of the games, Pokémon Red and Green .
Red, a boy from the small town of Alabastia, gets his first Pokémon and the task of the Pokémon Professor Oak to complete the newly developed Pokédex by roaming the country and catching Pokémon. The professor's grandson, Blau, Rot's childhood friend and rival, receives the same assignment. The two boys set off through the Kanto region on separate paths that cross again and again to follow their dreams.
The plot of the games is shown greatly abbreviated. Many events are skimmed over, so that in the end only the beginning of the journey, the first and the last arena fight, the story of the village of Lavandia, the fights against Giovanni and the catch of Mewtwo are explained in more detail. This also explains the small number of main characters listed on the official website.
background
As a special edition with 4 episodes of 22 minutes each, the show was broadcast in Japan on October 2, 2013. An international publication on Nintendo's Pokémon TV followed on November 15, 2013. The animation was taken over by the Studios Production IG , Xebec and OLM . It was directed by Itsuro Kawasaki (episode 1), Yukio Kuroda (episode 2), Hideya Takahashi (episode 3) and Daiki Tomiyasu (episode 4), while the music is from Masafumi Mima .
The similarity to the games not only affected the plot, but also the look, music and structure of the fights. So many characters speak exactly the lines they say in the game. Original game music is reinterpreted and played in the background. As in the games, in some fights you can see a bar that shows the remaining energy of the Pokémon. Also, at the end of each episode, the game will be saved by displaying the save screen as in the game.
The mini-series was released on July 31, 2020 on DVD and Blu-ray by polyband Anime .
