The Pokschenga ( Russian Покшеньга, Покшенга ) is a left tributary of the Pinega in Arkhangelsk Oblast in northwestern Russia .
It has its source on a ridge that runs between the rivers of Northern Dvina and Pinega. It flows first in a northerly direction, later in an easterly direction. After 170 km it reaches the Pinega. The Pokschenga drains an area of 4960 km². It is mainly fed by the snowmelt. The mean discharge 25 km above the mouth is 44 m³ / s. It is covered by a layer of ice between late October / early November and late April / early May.
The main tributaries of the Pokschenga are the Ochtoma from the left and the Schetogorka, the Pilmenga and the Schilmuscha from the right.
The river was used for rafting until the 1990s .
