Hertnid von Stein
Hertnid von Stein , also vom Stein (* around 1427 , † 1491 ) was a diplomat , Bamberg canon and art patron .
Hertnid von Stein came from the noble family von Stein zu Nordheim and Ostheim and was a scholar of law, he was in the service of the bishops of Bamberg and the margrave Albrecht Achilles . He was provost of St. Jakob in Bamberg . As a diplomat he was at the imperial court and at the papal curia. In 1487 he was present at the consecration of Bishop Heinrich III. Great from Trockau .
As pastor of Hof , he received important benefices . Even if he did not exercise the office himself, he worried about the expansion of the Michaeliskirche . He is considered to have commissioned the Hof Altarpiece , which Hans Pleydenwurff made and which is now in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, and the Hertnid Altarpiece in the Hofer Lorenz Church . He has had himself portrayed in the central panel with the imperial couple Heinrich and Kunigunde.
