Pola Beck

Pola Schirin Beck (* 1982 in West Berlin ) is a German film director and screenwriter .

Life

Pola Beck grew up in West Berlin and has a twin sister, the artist and illustrator Tiziana Jill Beck.

After various jobs and internships in the film industry, he spent a year in Denmark at the European Film College in 2003 . From 2005 to 2011 Beck completed a degree in directing at the Konrad Wolf Film School and made documentaries and feature films in Denmark , Mexico and Iran . Her first completed short film at the film school was shown at the 2008 Berlinale in the series “Perspektive Deutsches Kino”.

Beck is concerned with the question of what good acting management means, and has sat in on the acting coach Frank Betzelt and dedicated her diploma thesis to the subject. Her feature film debut Am Himmel der Tag won the Golden Eye at the Zurich Film Festival and has since received several awards. The main actress of the film, Aylin Tezel , received the award for best actress at the 30th Torino Film Festival in 2012 for her portrayal as Lara Pielot , in 2013 the German Actor Award in the category of best young actresses and the award for best drama at the 42nd Sehs sucht Film Festival .

Pola Beck is currently developing new cinema and television projects and is working as a guest lecturer at a Berlin drama school.
