history

The Sachsen-Anhalt police helicopter squadron was founded on January 1, 1992 with three Mil Mi-2s from the GDR's central police squadron (ZPFS). The staff initially consisted of officers from the Lower Saxony police force , who were responsible for supporting the establishment of the East German police forces. a. moved to Saxony-Anhalt and staff of the ZPFS. In addition, there were graduates of the helicopter training squadron 35 ( HAG-35 ) of the NVA in Brandenburg-Briest .

In 1992 the PHuSt LSA began to procure modern police helicopters. This was initially an MBB Bo-105 CBS-4 (later upgraded to CBS-5) and later an MBB BK-117 B2. In the following year a second BK-117 B2 was procured and a Mi-2 was shut down for it. In 1996 the remaining Mi-2s were decommissioned so that the PHuSt LSA reached its fleet of three helicopters, which is still in existence today.

tasks

The police helicopter squadron supports the state police departments and can be requested by them for all tasks in which the use of the helicopter is tactically sensible and the efficiency of the operation is increased.

Typical tasks are the search for fugitive criminals as well as the search for missing people and things, the transport of special forces and police equipment, the monitoring of traffic routes such as waterways and highways and the reconnaissance and documentation of major police situations, e.g. demonstrations.

In addition, the helicopter can be used in other damage situations, e.g. to rescue casualties or to fight fires with the fire extinguisher .

collaboration

The maintenance of the police helicopters is carried out by ADAC Luftfahrt Technik both at its Halle-Oppin location and at PHuSt LSA (Line and Base Maintenance). The ALT also takes over the airworthiness monitoring of the helicopters (CAMO ).

The training of the flying personnel of the PHuSt LSA takes place at the aviation school for the police service of the federal and state governments at the location of the Federal Police Fliegergruppe Sankt Augustin.

technology

After the acquisition of an Airbus H145 and the sale of the Bo-105, the current fleet of the police helicopter squadron consists of two BK117s and one H145.

The purchase of a second H145 has been decided.

The helicopters of the PHuSt LSA are approved for flight according to visual and instrument flight rules . They are equipped with a thermal imaging camera system and powerful spotlights . The transport of external loads and fire extinguishing containers can optionally take place. For the deployment of special units , they can abseil down from the helicopter .

staff

The standard crew of a police helicopter of the PHuSt LSA consists of a pilot and a flight technician who form the cockpit crew and a system operator who u. a. operates the thermal imaging camera.

Depending on the mission, this crew can be deviated from. In this way, the operator can be dispensed with for transport tasks and a second pilot can be employed instead of the flight technician.

The pilots have at least a professional pilot license (CPL-H) and the flight technicians a license according to § 62 ff. Of the Ordinance on Aviation Personnel .
