action

One day the wine merchant who regularly supplies Inspector Keller's friend Sophie is lying in his shop with a broken neck. He was last seen with Laima Saizmanis from Latvia, who has since been raped and physically abused in hospital.

During his investigation, Inspector Keller has to discover that he himself seems to be involved in the case. Lately he has had to see Dr. Get treatment from Juris Gríns. He also used morphine , which led to impaired consciousness in Keller and he cannot rule out the possibility of having been with the Latvian. At least one witness is certain that she saw Keller with Laima. He comes under urgent suspicion because a woman alone is out of the question as a perpetrator. Keller is about to be taken into custody, but he evades arrest and is investigating in secret to prove his innocence. When he wants to visit Laima in the hospital, he meets a doppelganger, which explains everything to him. Sophie Stein also sees this man and follows him with Keller when Laima tries to bring the man to Latvia. They chase the fugitives across the border and out to sea on board a ferry and from there to Riga. Keller almost succeeds in catching the man when his brain plays a trick on him again. In the short term, he thinks that it was all just a dream and that he hadn't left Bad Homburg at all. Because when he comes to himself, Dr. Juris Gríns at his side and wants to give him another injection. Keller can defend himself against this and finds out that the doctor had traveled after them. He is so infatuated with Laima that he killed the wine merchant out of jealousy and then sold Leima out of anger. Laima had fled back to her homeland with her new boyfriend, who actually looks very similar to Keller, for fear of Gríns.
