Thinking time is a German crime film by Hans-Werner Honert from 1986. The television film was released as the 105th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 .

action

Art dealer Boltenhagen is run over by a motorcyclist in a tunnel and dies at the scene. His suitcase with 30,000 marks is stolen. Jürgen Seidler, who owns the motorcycle, escapes from the scene and can be caught a little later. He claims to have thrown the suitcase over the planks and can also describe other details of the incident. He comes into custody, where he shares a cell with old Oswin. Drunk he ran over a woman who died. He admitted the crime and is almost relieved that the pre-trial detention will soon be over. He doesn't understand that Jürgen is not telling the investigators - Captain Peter Fuchs and Lieutenant Lutz Zimmermann - the full truth. The investigators believe that Jürgen either had an accomplice or hid the money because the suitcase was never found. Jürgen sticks to his version of the story.

After six months of pre-trial detention, Jürgen is about to be released because the offense cannot be definitively proven. His father dies and, at Veronica's request, he is to attend the funeral. Veronika is the former girlfriend of Jürgen's little brother Peter. She is pregnant by Peter, who refuses the child and therefore left Veronika during Jürgen's imprisonment. Jürgen is outraged and goes to the funeral to force Peter to return to Veronika. Peter firmly refuses. It becomes clear that the relationship between the two brothers is bad, because Peter wants to break away from Jürgen's paternalism. Back in prison, Jürgen writes a letter to the public prosecutor's office, stating that his confession from then is false and that he is in fact innocent. In fact, further investigations reveal that Jürgen was in the cinema at the time of the crime and that his motorcycle was stolen. In the effects there is Jürgen's ignition key for the machine, which was therefore obviously started with a spare key. During interrogation, Oswin reports to the investigators that Jürgen thinks his brother is the perpetrator, as only he had a duplicate key to the machine. Jürgen wanted to cover Peter, to whom he had been like a father since early childhood; a stay in prison would have ruined the future that Jürgen had prepared for him. Veronika was also Jürgen's choice for Peter, who now lives with the older Claudia.

The investigators question Peter, who can show the second key to the motorcycle. He does not understand why the investigators are questioning him and only finds out in direct confrontation with Jürgen that he suspects him of murder. This increases the gap between the brothers. Jürgen, in turn, is now shocked by his suspicions and withdraws the letter to the public prosecutor as a false statement. The investigators reconstruct the crime again. As a possible escape route from the tunnel, in addition to the entrance and exit, the sewer system could also be considered, as there is an entrance in the tunnel. The investigators search the sewer system and finally discover a room that has not been marked and is filled with stolen goods. Among other things, the suitcase from the art dealer Boltenhagen can also be found here. Observation posts will be set up in the sewer system. Jürgen is released, but still believes that Peter is the culprit. He drives away on his motorcycle indignantly and Jürgen follows him. The investigators also find an entrance to the sewer system on the smoking island of Peters Betrieb. A little later, the perpetrators who wanted to visit their thief camp can be found in the sewer system. It concerns Elmar Raude and Reinhold Banner, who worked with Peter as a car mechanic in the same company. Peter and Jürgen meet again at a motorway bridge on which they often used to stand together. Peter asks Jürgen to get out of his life. He always patronized him and Peter looked up to Jürgen for a long time. Jürgen never trusted Peter for anything, except once: the murder of the art dealer Boltenhagen. Peter's trust in Jürgen has been permanently shaken and reconciliation is no longer possible.
