In one second is a German crime film by Hans Joachim Hildebrandt from 1980. The television film was released as the 65th episode in the film series Polizeiruf 110 .
action
The young Anne Werdau is in Pankow on Friday, November 30, 1979, on her way to the night shift in the evening. Teacher Winfried Walter quickly wants to see his wife, whose birthday is that day. Both wait at a traffic light and cross it when it is green. You are hit by a car that is passing the pedestrian crossing at excessive speed when it is red. Anne dies a little later in the hospital, Winfried Walter will remain paraplegic . Lieutenant Jürgen Huebner begins the investigation, in which he is supported by the young lieutenant Buchholz.
Witnesses testify that the car was a bright Lada or a similar model. Several license plates are named and a large-scale search for possible cars begins. This would have to show clear signs of the accident, including the broken windshield was completely removed, as the police fear after finding broken glass not far from the crime scene. With a missing windshield, a driver is less noticeable than with a broken one. The investigators cannot find the car, however, and they know that time has thwarted their plans: if the car has already been repaired, it is difficult to detect any traces of the accident. The investigators go to the press with a call for witnesses.
The next day there is a rally in which Klaus Werker and his co-driver Jürgen Dankert also take part. Klaus is fifth and is dissatisfied. His girlfriend Monika Habelt is annoyed by his car obsession. She asks Klaus to stay with her for the night, but Klaus lets Jürgen Dankert pick him up. Jürgen read about the call for witnesses in the press and learned that a woman was killed in the accident. He gets drunk, but insists on driving Klaus home. Later they both change places. There is an argument between the men, and Jürgen takes Klaus in the steering wheel. It comes off the road and only comes to an abrupt stop shortly before an abyss. Upon impact, Jürgen hits his head so hard that he dies immediately. Klaus faked another kind of accident by pushing the car down the precipice and then setting it on fire with gasoline. He returns to Monika and stays with her. He asks her to pretend that he was with her all night. He claims that Jürgen was drunk at the wheel and caused the accident.
The investigators question Monika and Klaus and both report unanimously that they spent the evening and night together. Jürgen Hübner in particular questions Monika again and again, as he suspects that she is not telling the truth. Monika learns from him that due to the injuries Jürgen could not possibly have been the driver of the car, but only sat in the car as a passenger. She sticks to her statement, but confronts Klaus. He admits to having driven the car and tells her that the argument was about Jürgen causing the accident with the dead woman a short time before. He wanted Jürgen to face the police, but they refused. When asked again, Monika indicates that Jürgen was perhaps not as good a driver as everyone has always assumed. A little later, Monika goes on vacation with Klaus. She and Klaus are planning to get married.
Investigators examine Jürgen's car and find out that it has actually been repaired. The reconstruction of the evening also makes it clear to them that Jürgen could neither have driven nor repaired the car with the pedestrians on the evening of the accident. They travel to Monika and Klaus on vacation. Here Monika learns that Klaus is an egocentric person. Neither the fate of Jürgen nor that of his large family moves him. He would always prefer his car and rallying over his family. When Monika curses at the car, Klaus hits her. She is about to leave when the investigators arrive. They confront Klaus with their realization that he was behind the wheel that evening. Klaus denies it, but Monika interjects that he should finally admit that he was the driver. Klaus gives in and reports that they had an argument about the fatal accident that Jürgen was to blame. The investigators correct him: Not Jürgen, but Klaus was behind the wheel that evening. Klaus' car broke down shortly before the rally the next day and auto mechanic Jürgen repaired the car while Klaus drove into town and did some shopping for Jürgen. After the accident, Klaus used the night to repair the car so that it was ready to drive again the next day. Jürgen could not have repaired the car because he was home shortly after the accident. Monika confirms that Klaus had come to her that evening in Jürgen's car, and thus brings the final proof of Klaus' guilt.
