Polly Koss (born August 7, 1880 in Vienna ; † April 15, 1943 there ; also written Koß ) was an Austrian soubrette and actress .

Life

After completing her vocal and acting training at the Conservatory of the Society of Friends of Music , Polly Koss made her debut at the Summer Theater in Karlovy Vary . From there she was engaged to the Theater in der Josefstadt in Vienna . As a soubrette, she worked at the Apollo , Carl and Stadttheater Wien, among others . From the 1930s onwards, Koss began a career in film, where she portrayed resolute but compassionate Viennese women. She worked several times with the audience favorites Wolf Albach-Retty and Paul Hörbiger as well as the actors Maria Andergast , Grethe Weiser , Oskar Sima and Theo Lingen . Directors included Géza von Cziffra , Hubert Marischka and Géza von Bolváry .

She was married to the chief director and deputy director of the Theater an der Wien, Emil Guttmann .

She rests next to her husband in the Evangelical Cemetery of the Vienna Central Cemetery (II, 136).
