Polly Scattergood (born October 18, 1986 in Colchester ) is an English singer and composer .

Life

She was born in 1986 and grew up with her two younger brothers in Wivenhoe , a fishing village near Colchester. At the age of 16 she moved to London and worked there to finance her music studies in the wholesale market hall.

Musical career

Her first important musical influence was when she was twelve when she was in school, when she got to know the lyrics and music of Suzanne Vegas' song " Luka ".

In London, she later attended the renowned London School for Performing Arts & Technology in the Croydon district , where she composed over 800 songs during her training.

In 2005 her first single, Glory Hallelujah , was released, and more singles followed. Her first album Polly Scattergood was released in March 2009 in Great Britain and the USA (on Mute Records ), it has not yet been published in Germany. For her debut album, Polly received Scattergood in Great Britain a. a. positive reviews from the BBC , The Guardian , The Independent , The Sun and various music magazines.

Scattergood describes itself as a "storyteller". Their music could be categorized as indie pop and is reminiscent of Kate Bush , Tori Amos , Björk , Kate Nash or Soap & Skin .
