Polo G (born January 6, 1999 in Chicago ; real name Taurus Tremani Bartlett ) is an American rapper. In 2020 he had his international breakthrough with the album The Goat .

biography

Taurus Bartlett, known as Polo G, grew up in the troubled Cabrini-Green neighborhood in northern Chicago and also came into conflict with the law as a teenager. He was also into rap and at the age of 18 he began to publish his own recordings on the Internet. He received special attention for the encouraging piece Finer Things , which he had written while in prison. The video for it received millions of views, and while it didn't make it to the charts, it later went platinum . Columbia Records became aware of him, the label signed him and released his first singles in 2018.

The first big hit came in early 2019 with the single Pop Out , a collaboration with label partner Lil Tjay , which almost made it into the top 10 of the official charts and got multiple platinum . The song was even a minor success in English-speaking countries. In the middle of the year he had finished his debut album Die a Legend . He went straight to number 1 in the rap charts and made it into the top 10 in the US album charts . Stylistically, Polo G is in the tradition of the Chicago drill and is known for its melodious, vocal rap.

There were no further single successes, but the second album followed in spring 2020. The pre-release single Go Stupid was only a minor success, but the album The Goat reached number 2 in the US charts and was also very successful internationally. It hit the charts across Europe and reached the top 10 in Great Britain and Ireland. 10 album songs also entered the US singles charts.
