Lil Tjay

Lil Tjay (born April 30, 2001 in New York ; actually Tione Jayden Merritt ) is an American rapper from New York. He had his breakthrough in 2019 with the EP FN and the album True 2 Myself .

biography

Tione Jayden Merritt aka Lil Tjay grew up in the Bronx and was jailed for theft as a teenager. While in detention, he wrote his frustrations in the form of rap songs and after he was released in 2017, he recorded them and posted them online. It was immediately successful and has been accessed millions of times. The first track resume had around 14 million clicks after a year. Leaked , Brothers and Goat were other popular pieces. The big labels advertised him and he signed with Columbia in 2018 .

In the same year the first EP No Comparison was released and six months later the second FN appeared , which brought him his first chart placement not only in the US charts , but also in the British charts . The title song also made it into the single charts in both countries. An even bigger hit was Pop Out , a collaboration with Polo G , which almost made it into the top 10 in the United States and was awarded four times platinum . Shortly after the song was released, Lil Tjay's debut album True 2 Myself was released , which reached number 5 on the US album charts and also entered the charts in some European countries.

Another chart EP with the title State of Emergency followed in 2020 . He also worked with Pop Smoke and had a top 10 hit in the UK as a guest on their single Mood Swings .
