The Kid Laroi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kid Laroi (born August 17, 2003 in Sydney ; real name Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard ), spelling The Kid LAROI , is an Australian rapper. He owes his international breakthrough in 2020 to the American rapper Juice Wrld, who died the year before .

biography

Charlton Howard aka The Kid Laroi grew up in the Australian outback , in the mining town of Broken Hill deep in western New South Wales . When he was a teenager, his family moved back to Waterloo in the metropolis of Sydney , where he was originally born. His mother brought him into connection with R&B and rap. At the age of 13 he appeared as a rapper himself and at the age of 14 he released his first EP 14 with a Dream . He also took part in the prestigious Triple J Unearthed talent competition run by the national broadcaster of the same name and made it to the finals.

The success brought him appearances in the opening act of the Australian tour of Juice Wrld . He made friends with the US rapper and this promoted him from then on in his further career. He got a record deal with Columbia and released the single Let Her Go in 2019 , which brought him first international attention. The song Diva with the support of Lil Tecca was then his first smaller hit, even if it missed the Australian Top 50. Juice Wrld died in late 2019, but it was a single with him that helped him break through in June 2020. It was called Go , reached number 52 in the US singles charts and also made it into the charts in other countries. Another boost was the track Hate the Other Side from Juice World's posthumous album Legends Never Die , on which he was a guest and which rose to number 10 in the USA.

His own debut mixtape Fuck Love came out right afterwards. It immediately achieved a top 10 placement in the USA as well as 3rd place in its home country and other international placements.
