Polo picnic

The polo picnic is a polo tournament in Münster , Westphalia , which has been held since 2004. The annual benefit event combines picnics with polo.

history

Since the first edition in 2004, the tournament has taken place every summer in the Handorf district. With more than 5000 visitors per day of the event, it is one of the most popular polo tournaments in Germany. The initiator and organizer is the Münster entrepreneur and polo player Sebastian Schneberger. It has been Polopicknick GmbH since 2010. Many well-known, partly international polo players regularly take part in the polo picnic - including Christopher Kirsch , Eva Brühl , Valentin Novillo Astrada and Thomas Winter . The polo picnic is a benefit event. Part of the proceeds and the entry fee are donated to a charitable cause every year .

Game system

A total of eight teams compete against each other in the knockout system . After the first round, the winners play for the polo picnic trophy, the losers for the so-called wooden cup, which is played with a traditional wooden ball. The tournament is one of the few in Germany that includes games with a wooden ball.

Projects supported

Since the first polo picnic in 2004, the polo picnic has supported charitable projects in the region. Already supported z. For example, the Heart Wishes eV, the German Board of Trustees for Therapeutic Riding eV (DKThR), the Münster Zoo , Friends of Bone Marrow Transplantation Münster eV, Forest School Münster eV, sponsorship for linden trees, St. Mauritz children's home and other local projects. The ninth polo picnic was supported by the Münster-based Peter Foundation, which is dedicated to nephrology , especially with children. In 2013 the proceeds go to the integrative boxing project "Farid's QualiFighting" by the ex-professional boxer of the German national team, Farid Vatanparast .
