Pomadasys is a genus of the Grunzer (Haemulidae)consisting of about 35 species. Pomadasys species occur in tropical and subtropical zones of the Atlantic , Pacific and Indian Oceans , as well as in the Mediterranean .

features

They are 12.5 to 80 cm long and have a high-backed shape with a continuous dorsal fin, which is clearly divided by an indentation into a hard and a soft-rayed section. The mouth is relatively small. The sideline runs parallel to the back profile near the back. On the underside of the tip of the lower jaw there is a small pit typical of the species, and two sensory pores on both sides of the pit.

Overall, the genus is poorly described and the demarcation to related genera is not clearly defined . Pomadasys differs from Brachydeuterus (18-22) by the number of gill-trap rays on the lower branch of the first gill arch (10 to 16 ).
