Pommenich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pommenich was a settlement that belonged to Pier in the municipality of Inden in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Pommenich was on the L 257 between the center of Pier and Vilvenich , as well as Haus Verken .

history

In 2016 a village near Pommenich that existed around the birth of Christ was excavated. It consisted of 18 buildings of a separate house type, which could be demonstrated here for the first time. Although they were similar to the 2- and 3-aisled structures common in northern Germany, they were 4-aisled. The houses measured 15 × 8 m and each had an entrance on the long sides. Instead of the usual storage pits, there were numerous four-post storage facilities. Pommenich consisted of Pommenicher Strasse and Birkesdorfer Strasse. It had merged with Pier via Birkesdorfer Strasse. The core of Pommenich, however, consisted only of Pommenicher Strasse, which was arranged at right angles to Landesstrasse 257 , just like Vilvenich . This street consisted mostly of brick farmhouses. Furthermore, Pommenich is very likely of Roman origin. In 2013, Pommenich was razed as it had to give way to the Inden opencast mine .
