from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Viehöven is a hamlet in the municipality of Inden in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia .

Viehöven lies between Schophoven and Kirchberg . Here lies at 90 m above sea level. NHN the lowest point in the municipality of Inden.

Until the merger of the districts of Düren and Jülich in 1972, the hamlet was the northernmost place in the district of Düren. Even today it only consists of three manors . Today the Inden opencast mine is located directly behind the houses.

Bailiffs , messengers and other officials used to have to stop at a giant oak on their way to Viehöven and call out loudly for permission to enter the place; surely a reminder of the times when the hamlet, according to old privileges, offered refugees a six-week undisputed stay before access by princely or ecclesiastical powers. With the huge free oak in 1852, this philanthropic function from the distant past also fell into oblivion.
