The genus Ponerorchis from the orchid family (Orchidaceae) has consisted of 52 species native to Asia since March 2018.

Systematics

The genus Ponerorchis was created in 1852 by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach for the species Ponerorchis graminifolia . Between 1997 and 2003, phylogenetic studies showed that poner orchids were not monophyletic in the definition at the time. A more detailed study of 2014 showed a strong relationship between Ponerorchis , amitostigma and Neottianthe , and all were in the genre Ponerorchis summarized.

Until then, Ponerorchis was distinguished from the other two genera by the fact that their pollinium contained a pocket. However, this was then also found in some species that were previously included in Amitostigma , while it was hardly found in some species of Ponerorchis . This differentiation criterion is therefore invalid; in fact, it occurs four times independently within Orchideae .
