Poniatów ( German  Seitendorf ) is a district of the city Wałbrzych (German: Waldenburg ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship in Poland.

Poniatów is located on the north-eastern outskirts of Wałbrzych. Neighboring towns are Lubiechów ( Liebichau ) in the north, Pogorzała ( Seifersdorf ) and Modliszów ( Hohgiersdorf ) in the east, Dittmannsdorf in the south-east, Stary Zdrój in the south-west, Szczawno-Zdrój in the west and Szczawienko in the north-west.

history

Seitendorf was first mentioned in 1305 in the Breslau episcopal register of interest as "Sybothonis villa". It belonged to the Duchy of Schweidnitz and together with it came to the Crown of Bohemia in 1392 . In 1410 it was called "Seitindorff" and in 1453 it was acquired by the von Czettritz family, who owned it until 1925. Since the Lords of Czettritz were supporters of the Reformation , it was also able to spread to their territory. The church, which was used as a Protestant church during the Reformation, was returned to the Catholics in 1654.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Seitendorf and almost all of Silesia fell to Prussia . A year later a Protestant prayer house was built. For the year 1755 34 farmers, 72 gardeners and 16 court gardeners are recorded. In 1771 the population was 682, 23 of them house weavers. By 1840 the number of residents rose to 1,335 and the number of looms to 216. After 1850, numerous documents were destroyed in a fire in the Seitendorfer Schloss.

Since 1874, the rural community Seitendorf was the seat of the administrative district of the same name , to which the manor district Seitendorf also belonged. 1898 side village received with the stop Streckenbach Following the Waldburger orbit . In 1909 a Protestant church was built. In 1925 the von Czettritz family sold the Seitendorf estate district to the city of Waldenburg. In 1929 part of the manor district was incorporated into the Waldenburg district. In 1925 there were 2268 people in Seitendorf, in 1939 there were 2954.

As a result of the Second World War , Seitendorf fell to Poland in 1945, like almost all of Silesia, and was renamed Poniatów . The German population was expelled unless they had already fled . Some of the new residents were displaced from eastern Poland . 1973 Poniatów was incorporated into the city of Wałbrzych.
