The Pont-Neuf is a medieval bridge in Limoux ( Aude department ) in the Occitanie region and crosses the Aude River . The bridge has been classified as a Monument historique since 1948 .
history
At the instigation of King Philip V , 200 pounds were collected for the construction of a new bridge over the Aude directly behind the choir of the parish church of St Martin. The building was completed after Philip's death in 1329. In 1737 the entire structure was completely renovated and revised. The bridge was previously probably provided with fortified gates and there was a chapel on the third pillar.
