Perseus Karlström (born May 2, 1990 in Växjö ) is a Swedish walker . In 2019 he won the bronze medal over 20 km at the World Championships in Doha.

Athletic career

Perseus Karlström first competed in 2007, at the age of 17, with the U18 World Championships in Ostrava at international championships over the 10 km distance. In 48: 13.05 min he finished 24th. A year later he entered the senior class at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz. Compared to the previous year, he improved his time by about a minute, taking 30th place. At the U20 European Championships in Novi Sad in 2009, he improved again by three minutes and finished ninth.

Karlström has been competing in the 20 km distance since 2010. At the U23 European Championships in 2011 in Ostrava, he could not finish the race. The following year, he then only competed in adults. In 2013 he needed 1:28:20 h at the World Championships in Moscow and ended up in 38th place. Before that, he was 20th in the 2013 Universiade in Kazan. At the European Championships in Zurich he was 17th in 1:24:41 h. A year later, he could not finish the competition at the World Championships in Beijing.

In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. At the 2017 World Championships in London, he finished 37th. In 2018, he also took part in the European Championships in Berlin. There he was twentieth. 2019 is his most successful sporting year so far. In March he set a new Swedish record over 20 km in 1:18:07 h in Spain. At the World Championships in Doha in October, he won the bronze medal in a race under extreme climatic conditions in 1:27:00 h.
