The Ponte di Cecco is a c. 25 BC. Arch bridge built under Emperor Augustus in the Italian city of Ascoli Piceno , Province Ascoli Piceno , Region Marche , which spans the Torrente Castellano.

The city of Ascoli Piceno received its importance from the ancient consular road Via Salaria , an important supply route between Rome and the Adriatic coast that was developed under Consul Strabo .

The 25 meter high bridge leads through a stone house built on top of it to the medieval fortress Forte Malatesta , which served the city defense. The two travertine bridge arches have a span of 14.50 and 7.20 meters.

The bridge was blown up on June 16, 1944 by German soldiers on their retreat and rebuilt after 1950.

Local legends tell of work on the bridge in 1349 by the builder Cecco Aprutino.

According to a popular legend, the construction of the bridge can be traced back to the devil, who built the bridge in a single night according to the plans of the poet and astrologer Cecco d'Ascoli .
