Gorki Luis Águila Carrasco (born November 11, 1968 in Havana ) is a Cuban punk rock musician and dissident . He is the head of the band Porno para Ricardo .

Águila lives with his father and daughter in a small apartment in Havana's Marianao district , where he also records his music since he was banned from giving concerts. His mother and sister live in Mexico .

Initially, his band was welcomed by the Cuban leaders. It was even shown on television. But Gorky's texts soon became sharper and she was banned from appearing in public. With the help of foreign friends, his texts are now published on the Internet.

In 2003, Águila was arrested for drug possession after an undercover police officer lured him into giving her amphetamines . Águila spoke of a trap designed to silence him. After serving his term in prison, Águila became an increasingly blunt critic of the Cuban government, and his texts became more political. Speaking in a CNN interview, Águila said, “Communism is a mistake, a complete mistake. Please, you on the left of this world, improve your capitalism! ”In an interview with exiled Cuban anarchists , Porno para Ricardo described anarchism as“ very seductive ”.

In August 2008, Águila was arrested on charges of social danger ( peligrosidad social ). This section of Cuban criminal law allows the arrest of people who the authorities believe may commit crimes in the future. This charge carries a penalty of between one and four years in prison. Signs of this “dangerousness” are, for example, regular drunkenness and anti-social behavior. Ultimately, he was fined 600 pesos (around € 20) for disturbing public order after the original charges were dropped. Before that, Cuban bloggers like Yoani Sánchez had received appropriate international attention, so that the Cuban government, Águila said, may have feared international condemnation.

In April 2009, Águila was allowed to travel to Mexico with his family. His band Porno para Ricardo still exists, he explained. He wants to continue promoting his music from Mexico and return to Cuba after eleven months. The "disappearance" from Cuba did not silence him.
