history
Port Reading was built in the late 19th century by the Reading Railroad of Pennsylvania as a transshipment port mainly for the anthracite coal mined in Pennsylvania. In 1892 the port of Bound Brook, New Jersey, was connected to a new railway line, the Port Reading Railroad.
