Portishead is the second album by the trip-hop band from Bristol of the same name . It was released about three years after its highly acclaimed predecessor Dummy and at the same time marks the beginning of an eleven year waiting period for the third studio album, Third . The songs All Mine , Over and Only You were released as singles.

As on the band's debut album, there are also some samples from other musicians on this album . This concerns the song Only You with samples by Ken Thorne's Inspector Clouseau , The Pharcydes She Said and the song Western Eyes with a sample by Hookers & Gin by Sean Atkins Experience .

Reviews

The album is a bit behind its critically acclaimed debut, but has also been called a "brilliant record" .

In various album-of-the-year-1997 rankings, the album achieved top places, including in Melody Maker (18th place), in NME (32nd place), Spin (6th place) and in Q (in the top 50; no order) .

Film music

Some pieces on the album were used as film music or in series, including Undenied in Unter dem Sand and Only You in Warehouse 13 (Season 1, Episode 5).
