Poster Girl is an American short documentary film released in 2010. In 2011 the film was nominated for an Academy Award .
prehistory
In the summer of 2008, filmmaker Sara Nesson worked on a documentary called Iraq Paper Scissors about the Combat Paper Project , in which war returnees with post-traumatic stress disorder make paper from their uniforms and then process it into books or art objects. One of the participants, Sergeant Robynn Murray, caught Nesson’s attention while filming, and Nesson asked if she could go with Murray on camera. Murray agreed and was accompanied with the camera for two years. Robynn Murray enlisted in the Army after high school and was stationed in Iraq from May 2004. She enlisted in the Civil Affairs Division with the aim of helping the people of Iraq. A few days after their arrival, however, Murray was used as a machine gunner in vehicle convoys. As a result, Murray became a figurehead for female soldiers and, among other things, featured on the cover of an Army magazine.

The camera accompanies Murray, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, on visits to the authorities, to therapies and in very private moments in which Murray, among other things, near a final collapse, punches a hole in the wall of her bedroom with his bare hands. Nesson films Murray during her activities for the Iraq Veterans against War and in the Combat Paper Project . Murray talks about her experience in Iraq and how much she regrets what she did there. The credits mention that Murray's Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has been recognized by the Army.
