Potter's angelfish ( Centropyge potteri ) lives in the Pacific near Hawaii , but has also been seen near the Midway Islands and the Johnston Atoll . He prefers outer reefs , rocks and rubble at depths of less than ten meters up to 138 meters; Young fish can also be found at depths of five meters or more. The representatives of this common fish species never leave the immediate vicinity of their respective hiding place. They received the Art Epithet in honor of the first director of the Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii, Frederick Potter.
Potter's angelfish feed on algae and detritus . Its main breeding season is from mid-December to May. It spawns at dusk, the week before the full moon.

This angelfish species becomes ten centimeters long. It is of an orange base color and covered by a net-like network of green horizontal stripes. The dorsal, caudal and anal fins have bright blue stripes. The pectoral and pelvic fins are light orange to yellow. The bright orange coloration of the animals is usually not visible in their natural habitat, as the red part of the sunlight is absorbed by the water in these depths, and appears brown or green-gray there.
