Ludwig Friedrich Seyffardt (born June 18, 1827 in Aachen , † January 26, 1901 in Krefeld ) was a German textile entrepreneur and national liberal politician.

Life

His parents were the director of the Aachen-Münchner Feuerversicherungsgesellschaft Ludwig Seyffardt (1792–1871) and his wife Mathilde Seyffardt nee. Scheibler (1805-1833). Ludwig Friedrich Seyffardt was married to Mathilde born in 1856 . vom Bruck (1837–1880). The couple had six children.

Seyffardt attended comprehensive school and then the higher citizen school in Aachen. He then completed a commercial apprenticeship at the H. vom Bruck & Söhne velvet factory in Krefeld. In 1848 Seyffardt traveled to Great Britain . In 1856 he became a partner, in 1857 a co-owner and from 1861 owner of the velvet factory in Krefeld and opened branches in Rheydt and London . However, Seyffardt largely withdrew from business life in 1867 in order to devote himself to charitable activities.

Seyffardt was very active in Krefeld. He was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce from 1862 to 1887, from 1869 a city ​​councilor and alderman . He was head of the urban deputation for the poor and from 1873 to 1875 a member of the permanent deputation of the National Economic Congress . He was a member of the honorary board of the craftsmen and education association. 1869-1899 Seyffardt was chairman and reorganizer of the municipal poor commission in Krefeld. Since 1877 he has been instrumental in transforming denominational schools into non-denominational schools in Krefeld.

Seyffardt wrote a number of journalistic articles and an autobiography. In his memory, the citizens of Krefeld commissioned a memorial .

Social politics

Seyffardt was a member of the National Liberal Party. He sat on their central board from 1893 to 1898. From 1869 to 1870 he sat in the Reichstag of the North German Confederation . With brief interruptions he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives between 1873 and 1898 .

In the years 1886, 1890, 1895, 1897 and 1899 he sat on the committee of the Verein für Socialpolitik . Since 1881 a member of the main committee, he was chairman of the German Association from 1886 to 1901 . He was also a member of the Society for the Dissemination of Popular Education and, since 1889, a member of the main board of the Fatherland Women's Association. He was a co-founder of the Association against the Abuse of Liquor Drinks.

Seyffardt was a member of the national association, 1863 to 1864 in the German association for Krefeld and the surrounding area, school association for Krefeld. He was chairman of the Krefeld gymnastics club and the Krefeld workers' club.
