Powaqqatsi is the second part of the Qatsi trilogy by Godfrey Reggio . Powaqqatsi is a word from the language of the Hopi Indians, which means something like "a being", "a way of life that uses up the life forces of other beings to promote / support its own life". The film was released in theaters in 1988.

content

The subject of the film is the impact of industrialization on the peoples of Asia , Latin America and Africa . The camera often lingers for minutes on people's everyday processes, so that the viewer becomes an observer at the same time. Reggio thus makes the film an experience for the viewer. Ultimately, the viewer can gain his own insight from the images.

Like his predecessor Koyaanisqatsi and his successor Naqoyqatsi , Powaqqatsi also manages without any dialogue. Philip Glass composed the music. It is partly shaped by the influences of traditional Asian and African music as well as electronic sounds.
