Pierre-Louis Dubus , called Préville (born September 17 or 19, 1721 in Paris , † December 18, 1799 in Beauvais , Oise department ) was a French actor .

Live and act

Dubus came from a simple background and was actually intended for a church career. Occasionally a theater production (→ Paris fair theater ), in which Préville took part, he was discovered by the impresario Jean Monnet (1703-1885) and engaged for the Opéra-Comique .

From 1743 Préville appeared in Paris, from 1753 at the Comédie-Française . He made his debut there on September 20 in the role of "Crispin". He was able to achieve his greatest successes there alongside his colleague Marie-Anne Botot Dangeville . In Edmé Boursault's comedy Le Mercure galant ou la comédie sans titre , Préville once took on six roles.

Préville later went to Lyon and took over the management of the Grand Théâtre . From 1793 it became impossible due to the reign of terror (→ French Revolution ). Préville retired into private life and settled in Beauvais. He died at the age of 78 on December 18, 1799 and was also buried there.
