Prümscheid (natural area)

The Prümscheid (size 55.8567 square kilometers) is a landscape area in the Eifel . It is formed by a quartzite ridge running in a south-west-north-east direction, which is divided by a network of mostly natural tributaries and source streams of the Lieser and Kyll .

In the north, the quartzite is interrupted by basalt and lava cones ( Ernstberg , Scharteberg , Asseberg, Baarley) and small dry maars (Gees shooting range). The highest elevation of the natural area is the eponymous Prümscheid with 674.7 m above sea level. NHN and near Wallenborn .

In some areas, the volcanic cones are subject to rock mining in lava and basalt pits.

According to the manual of the natural spatial structure of Germany, the natural area belongs to the main unit group 27 Eastern Eifel and within it again to the main unit 277 Kyllburger Waldeifel . Here, the Prümscheid forms part of the Kyllburger Waldrückens (277.2) and has the ordinal number 277.20.
