The Prądnik [ ˈprɔndɲik ] (in Kraków also Białucha ) is a left tributary of the Vistula in the Kraków-Czestochowa Jura of 33.4 kilometers in length.
It was mentioned as Prandnik fluvius as early as 1228 , then as prandnik (1267) and super fluuium Prandnik (1348). The name is derived from the word prąd (current, stream) with the suffix "-nik". A few kilometers west along the river, the most important trade route from Krakow through Olkusz and Bytom to Wroclaw , the Via Regia .
The river has its source in the village of Sołuszowa and initially flows south in a deep erosion channel of the Kraków-Czestochowa Jura in the Ojców National Park ( Pieskowa Skała , Ojców ), then it flows through the villages of Prądnik Korzkiewski, Januszowice, Giebułtów , Pękowice, Zielon Krakow (between the districts of Prądnik Biały and Prądnik Czerwony , Kraków Old Town , Grzegórzki ). Before 1655 the Prądnik flowed into the old river bed of the Vistula, which no longer exists today. Now the river flows into the Vistula in the Dąbie district .
